Consider Insuring Your Valuable Outdoor and Patio Furniture

I just read two stories online about outdoor furniture. The first out of the UK was from a financial company - American Express - advising homeowners to insure their outdoor furniture. According to them a British household’s outdoor tables and chairs costs an average of £248 ($510 USD); not including such niceties as patio heaters and sun loungers. I dismissed the story at first as just another way for the insurers to make money by instilling fear. But the very next story I read happened to be about a rash of outdoor patio furniture theft from restaurants in a South Carolina town. It just made me think - if one is going all out to decorate their outdoor areas with beautiful and often quite valuable items, it does makes sense to insure those items under the homeowner’s general insurance policy just as one would their interior furnishings; especially if the items are unsecured out of doors in an unlocked area. Just a little food for thought…
